Granted, this coating is probably more durable on the long run but with any coated cord it is stiffer, bunches and catches on itself and any surrounding furniture, and my cats LOVE chewing on that type of cord while not in use (the mesh snags their teeth and feels weird on their lips so they tried once and never came near it again, but it does slide effortlessly across the surrounding furniture if it does happen to brush against any when I turn to get up).
